Project Background
The Adviser Portal project was one of the core elements of the challenging and exciting business
transformation that Aviva underwent in 2009. Everyone will have seen the TV adverts which were part of a major re-branding campaign, but this was really just the tip of the iceberg… Aviva transformed itself into a radically different business.
About The Advisor Portal
The Advisor Portal supports a major B2B channel between Aviva and its partners and IFAs. It is the main online e-commerce hub for the IFA community, providing a wealth of features to both registered users and the wider financial adviser community. Aviva’s Advisor Portal runs on a powerful IBM middleware platform including WebSphere Portal, Lotus Web Content Management, WebSphere ESB, WebSphere Process Server, Tivoli Access Manager and
Tivoli Directory Server. The platform is augmented with powerful monitoring tooling from IBM’s Tivoli Composite Application Monitoring suite to help ensure that Aviva provide their financial adviser community with these tools and facilities 24x7.

Phase 1
- A new and intuitive Adviser experience for accessing key Aviva information
- Access to detailed product information across the Aviva Life product set
- Access to fund selection tools, allowing Advisers to search for Aviva funds by Product, view fund fact sheets and analyse fund performance over time against key indices
- Access to a library of PDF documentation regularly used by Advisers
- Access to the latest Aviva news and insights
- A Web Content Management solution to allow internal users to manage and maintain content, and ultimately take advantage of this new and exciting channel
Phase 2
Access to “My Clients” functionality, allowing Advisers to search across their client base, and review their client portfolios (policy information, transaction history, valuations etc.)
- Access to new business functionality, allowing Advisers to Quote and Apply for Aviva products online
- Access to tracking functionality, to allow Advisers to track the progress of new business that they have submitted for their clients
- Access to new reporting functionality, allowing Advisers to customise reports for their clients.

Ascendant’s Involvement
Ascendant Technology were selected as the main delivery partner for the Advisor Portal project,
based on our focus on providing unparalleled technical expertise and development services around the IBM product portfolio, especially WebSphere Portal. The implementation phase of the project began in November 2008 with the rest phase going live in June 2009. The initial phase of the project went live in October 2009. It was delivered by a fully on-site Ascendant team including project management (Scrum), solution architecture and design, software design, development, build and deployment and component test specialists.

Looking to the Future
Atech continues to be a key delivery partner with Aviva Life, working with them on other IBM platform projects and helping them to establish internal delivery practices around the entire e-commerce platform. Atech are also working with other Aviva businesses to help them to successfully adopt and exploit the IBM technologies on which the Adviser Portal platform is based.
